Epsom August 12, 2010
Thoroughbred
Genetics race in support of The Racehorse Sanctuary
August 12th, 2010 was Racehorse Sanctuary Day at Epsom Downs and a number of individuals and companies got together to support a card in aid of this worthwhile organization. The Racehorse Sanctuary is the brainchild of Graham Oldfield and Sue Collins. Its primary function is to provide a rehabilitation haven for retired racehorses that may not be suitable for a career in breeding but have given their service to the sport of racing. "As we are involved at the outset in helping to make decisions about a horse's breeding we also believe that it is important to look after those that have had their careers curtailed and we wholeheartedly support the work of the Racehorse Sanctuary" said Dr. Steve Harrison, CEO of Thoroughbred Genetics.
After winning 3 days earlier at Windsor, the 3yo Thoroughbred Genetics 1m Handicap was won in good style by Super Duplex trained by Pat Phelan, ridden by Ian Mongan and owned by Mr. and Mrs. Buckley of Special Piping Materials Ltd.
The winning team of (L to R): Pat Phelan; Mrs. Buckley, Super Duplex, Sophie Collins, Ian Mongan and Mr. Buckley.
Dr. Steve Harrison of Thoroughbred Genetics presents the trophy to Mr. And Mrs. Buckley.
It is the aim of Thoroughbred Genetics to increase its sponsorship of charities within the racing industry over the coming years. We also hope that next year we will be able to support the Racehorse Sanctuary yet again.
