FIRST SEASON SIRE UPDATE – NIGHT OF THUNDER

10 July 2019

We are extremely proud to have had an involvement with the production of Night Of Thunder via the mating leading to it and the previous purchase of his dam (Forest Storm). This makes following the progress of the Darley stallion important to Thoroughbred Genetics.

He is going from strength to strength in his freshman season. Whilst still awaiting black type he is currently boasting an impressive 56% of winners/runners.

He was bred during a golden period by Frank Dunne’s Hamwood Stud, which also saw the production of Creachadoir and Youmzain. A Tattersalls graduate (bargain for Rabbah Bloodstock at 32,000 gns), he is out of the Listed Flame Of Tara Stakes-second Forest Storm (Galileo). Forest Storm,  bred by Howard Spooner, was purchased at Goffs Orby for 240,000 Euro by Hamwood. Spooner’s dam of Forest Storm, Quiet Storm (Desert Prince), was twice Listed-placed.

It is encouraging to see him doing so well this early on in the season and it is expected that his progeny will improve as the season progresses. It won’t be long before black type is forthcoming with a number of promising progeny (including Thunderspeed, Wild Thunder and Thunderous with higher level entries) taking the stage in Europe.

Having a close involvement with the breeding of this line gives us a useful genetic insight into the best matings for Night Of Thunder and we hope to be able to support our clients in making informed decisions involving this impressive young sire.
